St Gabriel’s Church in Mapesbury

Mapesbury Resident’s Association, Social Inclusion booklet, tips and links

  • Mapesbury Residents Association (MapRA) started in the early ‘70s by committed residents who love where they live in the ward of Mapesbury. It has now grown to over 800 households and MapRA aims to act in the interests of all local residents and support them on problems.

A very big thank you to MapRA for supporting us once again, by donating £200 to our Festive Lights project, we are thrilled.

  • MapRA’s Social Inclusion booklet: Please take a look at MapRA’s Social Inclusion booklet: “Social inclusion and interaction are vital for health and well-being; research indicates socialising has declined by 30% over 20 years.  Each successive generation attends church, temples and mosques, visits community centres and takes part in sports less often than their parents. Research shows that there is a strong correlation between deep relationships and well-being, and this is now recognised and acknowledged by the NHS”. Their booklet includes:

    • definition of and comment on social inclusion and interraction

    • local opportunities for volunteering

    • other organisations that offer help and support

    • some places to eat, drink and socialise

    • some local regular classes and courses

    • an overview of The Mapesbury Residents’ Association

LeaF Tai Chi and Kung Fu for kids and teens

  • Daniele Toma hosts Tai Chi and martial art classes at Higher Potential as well as other venues across London.

  • Tai Chi Chuan is an internal martial art. This definition refers to multiple aspects of the discipline, but in a few words, it aims to tame the greatest of opponents: our ego.

Behind the martial art lies the ancient wisdom of Taoism. It is among the oldest philosophical traditions still practiced today, and its ideas can be found in many other Eastern and Western philosophies.

Body, mind, and spirit are one, which means an experience’s effects reverberate through all of them, no matter on which plane it has been lived. For example, what we call psychosomatic is the transfer of a psychological (mind) cause to a physical (body) effect.

Cycling Lives – Empowering Minds, Building Futures

Cycling Lives, is a community-rooted programme that’s quietly transforming how children, teenagers, and families experience movement, connection, and confidence.

We’re not just teaching cycling. We’re creating safe spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered in their little lives. Each session is a rhythm of trust-building, skill-sharing, and joy. And behind it all is a commitment to equity, lived experience, and ethical practice.

We’ve seen children who were too anxious to speak now leading warm-ups. Teenagers who felt invisible now mentoring younger riders. Families reconnecting through shared movement. It’s powerful and it’s growing.
