London in Bloom
The Willesden Green Town Team has a proud tradition of entering the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) London In Bloom competition each year, in the It’s Your Neighbourhood section.
We entered in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2024 (click on these links to read the judges’ reports for each year). The London in Bloom judges commended the team for their work inside Willesden Green underground station platforms (1 and 4), for the installation and maintenance of the railing planters outside the station and our support of the gardening around the Nest Café.
2024 London In Bloom
In 2024 we received a ‘thriving’ rating and a recommendation from the judges to do more community outreach for 2025. Below Pat O’Connor and his wife Liz accept the award for 2024.
Community Participation
Being inclusive of local people, local ownership and direction, making a difference in the community, working in partnership with other organisations and planning for the future.

2025 Judging Day on 4th July
Our judges this year were once again Ciaran, the Formal Parks Manager at City of London Corporattion and his colleague Ashley, Manager of the Hampstead Heath Hill Garden Pergola (also City Of London Corporation). They loved our work with Gladstone Park Primary School (which you can read about on this page).
We want to thank the judges for their considered feedback and advice, our gardeners are already making plans for next year’s competition!
None of this would have been possible of course without support from TFL, the Jubilee Line Station Manager and our partners at Nest Café and Daisy Chain for helping to water and maintain the railing planters.
Since 2016 the Town Team gardeners consistently impressed the London in Bloom judges. Categories that are considered by the London in Bloom judges include:
Environmental responsibility
Conservation and care of the local environment by creating, maintaining and improving green spaces. Minimising adverse environmental impact through activities such as composting (with worms), recycling and reducing the use of natural resources. Sharing knowledge and skills.
Feedback from London In Bloom
“Most of the plants are sourced from volunteer or donator gardens or spaces. Most are highly successful as the climate on the station is lovely, as long as there is constant watering. This area (Platform 4) has the most potential for development, including the potential 'pollinators garden'. It also is adjacent to the public highway, whereas Platform 1 abounds another railway corridor. This means that it (Platform 4) can link into green corridors along the street and is also far more visible for other interventions discussed, such as community or public art around biodiversity.” If, like us, you want to put the ‘green’ back into Willesden Green, please join our happy team of volunteers! You can give as much or as little time as you can with our gardening projects in the area – no experience needed! Email us at willesdengreentownteam@hotmail.com
