A Short History

There have been planters outside the Willesden Green station since 2014, thanks to the hard work and commitment of Town Team founder and former Chair, Elayne Coakes and the members of the Town Team.

Thanks to their efforts, we received funds from the Mapesbury Residents Association (MAPRA) to purchase and maintain three planters from 2014-2018.

Brent Council - Love Where You Live

In May 2022 the Willesden Green Town Team applied and were awarded a grant of £1,000 from Brent’s ‘Love Where You Live’ programme, to purchase extra railing planters and plants.  These were installed along the railings outside the station.

Since we wanted to bring more bio-diversity to the area as well as more colour and greenery to our streets, there are plans to extend this network of railing planters further along the high street.

Many thousands of people pass through Willesden Green underground station every day, not to mention the thousands more who walk, cycle or take the bus in their daily commute through our high street.

We believe that seeing greenery, flowers and nature helps to uplift and inspire our community and is something beautiful to look at every day as people go about their lives.

Brent Council’s ‘Love Where You Live’ Grant is dedicated to helping residents come together and deliver local projects that make a difference to the lives of people in our local area.  We brought together members of the community to volunteer and contribute to the planting.

Many thanks go to Anahita, Ursula, Anne, Pat, Shadi and Deb and our wonderful volunteers for their hard work and dedication.
